Best of YouTube: Tax Week Edition

Welp, I have *not* been posting as consistently on this as I like, taxes r due if you live in the United States, Katy Perry fucked up what could have been a really big moment for gender equality, and the Trump Administration is fucking up every aspect of life for Americans. I need to get my passport. Or better yet, get abducted by aliens. This planet is a shitshow. Lol!

Ethiopiques, vol. 1: Alemayehu Eshete

I was introduced to Ethiopiques from an interview with pop singer The Weeknd where he talked about how his first language was Amharic, not English, and his Ethiopian background. They're a series of jazz compilations that give a great musical overview of the country's cultural history, each one being part of a distinct overarching sound while sounding absolutely nothing like the others. I always put it on when I'm cooking or feeding guests, something about it just puts the right amount of liveliness and joy in the atmosphere for everyone to breathe in.

Shasha- Deep House Set on a Tractor

India's Crab Culture channel has been another favorite as of late, putting DJ sets in places like pizza shops and moving vehicles on country roads. It's a channel that brings a refreshing, DIY punk style of attitude to a genre oversaturated with DJs doing boring stunts to convince the internet they'll be headlining Ultra next year. It kind of reminds me of the "captures the energy of a live show through a YouTube video" energy of old Boiler Room, but in a much more releaxed and low-pressure way.

Iron Cthulu Apocalypse- Hissing At Gods

Dark Ambient is one of those genres you're either absolutely obsessed with, or it's an "absolutely the fuck not." I put this on every night when I sleep. Guess which side I'm on?

noideahowtoparty Live at Bar 415 for Trancenet

It's interesting to hear the way your sounds change over the years. This set's a lot slower and more progressive than my newer sounds- almost a halfway point between Sasha and deadmau5. I got the call for this set right as I was about to go to bed the night before, answering the phone half-conscious before jolting awake from how excited I was to have landed the gig. Bar 415 is a staple in the Omaha party scene, and while it didn't end up being my forever home like it has for a lot of other really talented DJs (AlexSed), it sure as hell was a pretty great step along the way.

FIREWALKER- ALONE (Deep House Mix)

One of my favorite drum & bass/jungle channels, this mix is a bit of a break from what you'll usually hear, and by extension, it's not really a "deep house" mix in the truest sense of the word. I'd personally classify it more as progressive breaks mixed with dub techno, but whatever it is, it's really nice and spacey in a way that helps you to declutter your mind and focus. More importantly tho- twerking Squidward. lol

Anyways, in conclusion: Punk rock good, US Government bad. Have a great week, ya filthy fucks!

I have a label, y'all!

Hey fuckers! Proud to announce I've started a label with DJ Stephen Marsh from PA. Interrupted Signal is a home to all things and sounds techno, a counter-offering to a world that's explicitly designed to stress you out and overstimulate you. Where Facebook offers you more anxiety over Trump's stupidity and your weird family members, we offer pleasure and happiness from avant-garde sound healing, dancing and love. In Stephen's own words: "The global signal is stagnant; it's time to interrupt it."     First offering is Stephen's The Art of Self - 3 songs that bring out the more soulful, introspective, melodic side of techno and induce a feeling of peace & calm not too far removed from Anja Schneider or Tale of us. Each one slowly builds in hypnotic fashion to satisfactory, complex peaks that would feel just as at home at peak time in the club as they would at 7 AM during the next day's bleary-eyed, sleep deprived drive to work. All 3 songs fl...

What's Christoph listening to? 20 Jan 2025

Welp, 2025 is here and it's off to a wild start. Fascism is back in power in America and I'm all adventured out for a lil while. Most of the country is dealing with insane levels of winter weather. The future is here, and it's very fucking strange. Here's some songs that are infinitely better than Spotify's boring-ass AI slop. Enjoy. Fluid Dynamic- In Da House, Vol. 1    Big 80s diva vocals over crisp, flashy 90s house. Every song hits hard enough to get the dancefloor moving, but also has enough melody and complexity that you can play it in the car or headphones over and over without it losing its straightforward, poppy appeal. I met Ross via Facebook back when they were a resident DJ on my home station, The Music Galaxy Radio . Aside from being a treasure trove of useful advice and friendly AF, they've also put me on to other great music, like Wake Up! The Fluid Dynamic project encompasses everything from hard trance to Dune soundtrack style ambient, all of...

2025 is here n so far its been fckin insane.

Morning everyone! Happy belated new year. 2024 was weird af. I had a lot of really cool moments last year (Getting to open for Colin Cook/IDBH was a huge highlight) but TBH I'm ready to put most of it behind me. I've been spending the last month or so traveling around the United States with my homie Xavier (Go check him out, he's a super dope painter) so I thought I'd share a quick lil recap of our adventures with y'all.   We started middle of December leaving Denver. We had moved there a couple months ago and it really just was not working out. The living situation was absolutely fricken atrocious and it really felt like almost all the creative people had left the city (With the exception of Quite Right Records ). So we hopped in the car and started driving. Down East through Kansas and Oklahoma. To Arkansas. Go see Arkansas. It's so fricken pretty. After Arkansas, we came back up through Missouri and Iowa to Nebraska for the holidays. We made some really do...
